My final post from Romania...

Can I first say, I hate goodbyes. Besides being sad, I’ve never been able to pull off a non-awkward one. I always end up weirdly twisting my hair, starring at my shoes, and compulsively laughing (for a visual, think Kristen Stewart in an interview). If you have ever had to go through one with me or if one looms in the future, I apologize. Sorry, Andra you’re next.

Here I was planning on having several photos detailing the evolution of packing. However, in the process of packing, I put my camera and camera cord in two separate bags and there’s no way I’m digging them out. With the assistance of your imagination we will do without.

Photo One: Lie on bed, watch Weeds, and will bags to pack themselves
Photo Two: Continue to do photo one
Photo Three: Get enough energy and packing will-power to get out suitcases
Photo Four: On a sugar high from a recently consumed Primola chocolate bar, pack about ¾ of belongings, realize the space is almost gone and go back to photo one
Photo Five: Pile everything into a mountainous heap in the suitcase and step back to observe
Photo Six: Continue observing
Photo Seven: Eat another chocolate bar
Photo Eight: Shove, jostle, push, move, and throw-away items until they finally fit
Photo Nine: Remember three things, without-a-doubt packed at the very bottom, needed before leaving
Photo Ten: Recover items and perform photo eight again
Photo Eleven: Success, sweet sweet success
Photo Twelve: Begin worrying the suitcases weigh more than 50 pounds

Thankfully, I’ve made it to the photo twelve stage. Nothing more to do, the scale tomorrow will seal my fate. Until then I can bask in the glory of successful packing.

I want to thank everyone who has read my blog this summer; whether it was every once in a while or if you were as loyal as my grandpa, thank-you. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading them as much as I’ve enjoyed writing them. This isn’t good-bye though, just good-bye to Romania. I’m going to try and blog a few times in London; we will see how busy my mom and I are, but check back throughout the week.

La revedere,
Kaitlin

  1. It was great having you here Kaitlin, and please do know that I am just as bad at saying goodbyes (that's why I usually say "catch you later" or some variation on that). And I really do hope that I will "catch you later", and that we will get to collaborate in the future. I wish you the best of luck in your medical career, and that the public health "glasses" you have tried on while here will help you in the journey you have started.

    Cu drag,
    Andra

PS. It was a pleasure reading your blog throughout the summer, so keep up the good work! You could seriously consider a scientific journalism hobby :).
